Police Chief Replacement Happening Now!

The City is leaking. Leaking information that is.

The story, from four reliable sources, has Assistant Chief Frank Adderley taking over as Chief of Police at 4 p.m. today. Though no official notification has been offered, a press conference is rumored to be taking place this afternoon when the promotion will be announced.

Assistant Chief - (soon to be Chief) Adderley protecting his soon to be boss

Apparently, the deal  involves Chief Roberts, who quit with protest yesterday, leaving the building today, not to return. No information about contract buy-outs could be obtained yet.

The speed in which the turn around is happening shows that the Administration understands the gravity of the Chief's move yesterday, and they want to put it behind them as soon as possible.

I'll have more for you later!

In my view, this moved is too fast, something feels wrong about this. I feel it's more about covering Mr Gretsas back then doing the best for the City of Fort Lauderdale.

Raymond, I agree with you so totally that all of this is moving too fast, & I also have gut feeling that the "cowards" we have serving as our elected officials are hiding something where Gretsas is concerned. But what, & will we ever know?
However, I do have "Faith" in Frank Adderley as the cities new Chief of Police! I truthfully feel that Frankie will do his best & will try to continue to do the job that Chief Roberts was doing. Remember, Frank grew up right here in the city & knows it very well from all aspects.
If the citizens had the right to vote for our new Police Chief & the 2 running were Adderley or Carter ~ by all means my vote would go to Frank!

Never in the history of modern policing has the chief of a large agency quit and his replacement named the next day. This was only done to throw smoke in front of the chief's letter and the allegations of Gretsas' misconduct. Gretsas wanted everyone to be so happy about the hometown chief that they would look the other way.

Frank will do a great job .... if Gretsas is held accountable

I couldn't agree more... This move is all about cover Gretsas back. The Mayor and the Commissioners are letting the wrong person leave, they should have Gretsas thrown out of the building...

Mr. Gretsas replaced a chief of police who resigned. What was the City supposed to do? We can't have a void in that position. The best thing is to put someone in charge as soon as possible. Best wishes to Chief Adderley. Let's move forward.

What the hell happened? Chief Roberts was to leave the department in 90 days.
Georgie Boy is up to no good as always!!
However, Adderley was the better (best) choice as our new Chief over Carter in my book!
Frank Adderley just be the man that you are. the officer that you are, & let that "loser" know that you run the police department not him or his little side kicks.

Mr. Roberts would probably have gone on leave for the 90 days and not worked. After the resignation letter (you can come to your own conclusions about the content) Do you really think the City Manager could work with Mr. Roberts as the Chief of Police? It was right to replace him after the resignation letter ASAP in my opinion. Mr. Roberts is entitled to leave, and the Manager is entitled to replace him. We need someone in that position and the manager filled it. The contract has been voted on and approved by the City Commission, now it's time to move on.

Now, if only our esteemed City Commission could put the City Manager behind us A.S.A.P.as his administration is trying to put Chief Roberts in the rear view mirror our City would be much better off. How long can this micro manager, and poor one at that, continue to ride roughshod over our City? You would think that after all of his escapades he would be out of supporting votes! Ah well, we should never overestimate the decision-making will or lack thereof of the Commission.

Congratulations to you Frank. We know that you will do everything in your power, as you have in the past, to keep us safe and that you genuinely care about our city. You are the right man for the job that you have earned as Chief of Police and we extend our best wishes to you.

I agree with the pro-Jack Siler comments but with power inevitably comes corruption. Do we have reasonable certainty that a Mayor Siler will bring change which includes deep-sixing Gretsas and his wrecking crew from New York State. Remember, our Mayor is perhaps only first among equals and with Teel and her co-hearts, change might be more difficult than we imagine.

Seiler is a fair & decent man. I truthfully believe that Jack would ax George & his side kicks once he sees how they opperate! Would it happen within the first month in office? No, but it would happen.

Our City Commission did get involved. They supported Gretsas in his continuing reign of terror and his strategy of management by personal fealty and micro scope. They apparently are afraid to confront this tyrant with the mini-personality and macro ambitions. I wonder what the little fellow has on the commission with the exception of Rodstrom who is at least questioning his tactics.

Frank is a great guy, and hopefully he is capable of running the whole department. I do have 2 issues with it, though. First, anyone that Gretsas appoints is obviously going to be somebody that he feels will be at his every beck and call, and will unquestionably do whatever the city manager's will is. Second, with all due respect to Frank, naming the city's first ever black chief is a convenient way to overshadow the questionably illegal tactics Gretsas uses to run the city and the black cloud hanging over his head in light of the Roberts' scathing remarks. Again, I'm not diminishing Frank's accomplishments, but it just seems like a quick fix by Georgey boy.
