Mind Reading Machine at Candidates Debate

     It was the biggy.

Fort Lauderdale's ALL CANDIDATES forum sponsored by the Fort Lauderdale Council of Civic Associations.

All 18 Candidates showed up, which was way impressive right from the get-go. Truth is, the Council, sometimes referred to as the Council of Trouble Makers, can be your best friend as a Politician, or something much less than that.

Anyhow, last night, local all around talented trouble maker Cal Deal snapped these telling  photos and I fed them into the mind reading machine I conveniently keep right here, next to my computer.

I'd like to know if the machine is accurate. Please send in your comments!

After watching the candidates answer the questions, it was clear that some were very informed and others blowing smoke...interesting that those who couldn't answer the question asked, answered a different one...political or foolish...it didn't go unnoticed.
Magdeline Lewis clearly did not tell the truth on a number of her answers - told a committee she would not run and then did - they verified that it was true, said she was a participant on a number of committees and boards - they never saw her, and was asked by Mayor Naugle to run for the job....does he have an agenda? Hankerson is well educated scholastically however she doesn't seem to know the roles of the city and county or who holds the responsibility....connected to the community? I think not. DuBose is young and willing, could be a good commissioner and would learn on the job, Adams is slick and polished and knows her stuff but doesn't relate well to the district,
As to Charlotte Rodstrom - you said none of your neighborhoods felt left out? What was the episode last week all about....they clearly told you that they felt disenfranchised.
Glassman, your record on P&Z does stand and you did alter your "vote no" status this past year.....did you see the light or just want Rodstrom's seat? Will you flip again?
Trantalis, how is it when you retired after one term you said publically that you had accomplished all that you set out to do and you needed to spend more time with your partner.....now your story is different. Honest Politician? hmmm,
Rynerson has settled down during his campaign and is doing his homework - he is starting to make economic sense instead of the original knee jerk reactions.....Rossi is still trying to green the community (not a bad thing) but would consider BSO as an option - clearly he hasn't heard the position of the public on that issue. Seiler is polished, smart and a little too sure of himself...it takes work to do the job and he is capable but he needs to get out of the old boy system because it damages his credibility.
Teel is still riding on her "accomplishments" of the last 6 years - strangely they are all only related to her district and she seems forgetful of the rest of the city. Her personal agendas show sometimes. Roberts has the distinct ability to build consensus and work with others, he just needs to get his message across that he is willing to work on all city issues.
Trodella seems to be a very nice man that isn't quite connected to the issues and hisory of how we got there, Prewitt is a bright articulate man that seems to have done his homework and participated in the community to earn his stripes. Lewis is running for the 4th time for something - is this public service or a desperate attempt at office. Rogers is old Ft. Lauderdale as he clearly tells everyone each time he speaks but he has no factual information or substance to his answers - not connected to the issues and the public....just his good ole' boys..now he wants to layoffs. etc.

Good opportunity to see the whole list of interested candidates. Some were impressive, some look disinterested, some didn't know the answers but made one up, some were prepared and ready. In the end, it leaves you with the choice of what you want for our future. A new commission is definitely going to be elected between 3 and 5 new people. Give me the knowledgable ones and the ones connected to the residential community as well as the business community. You need both connections to have the right balance and clearly some of them do not....how many nos in the beginning did you get. Not particpated in your own neighborhood, not been a council meeting or know what it is, not voluteered for city CVC projects???? Are these the people that have our interest at heart...I don't think so. Remember the answers both true and false and pick the best one for the job - not just your friend.

Did anyone else notice the tv reporter in the corner of the room cheering Dean on as he gave his closing remarks and the comments about his father's dying words. She was shaking her arms signaling he hit a homerun with that comment. Also I thought Dean seemed very childish on the dais when he rolled his eyes when others spoke and holding up his hands saying how long he had been campaigning.

    Under 3000 letters.
    Dear Neighbors and Friends,

SOME OF YOU HAVE RECEIVED EMAILS FROM "CLINT" (A.K.A. STEVE GLASSMAN) who has attempted to refute & criticize our emails regarding Charlotte Rodstrom's and Steve Glassman's records and behaviors. Normally, we would ignore vindictive personal attacks and distorted remarks made by people such as Clint/Steve in order to avoid, pardon the expression, a "pissing contest". Because his remarks & emails are so mean-spirited and distorted we felt compelled to respond this one time only (even though you will probably get another email from Steve).
Since Clint/Steve mentioned the City Hall candidates night (1/29) sponsored by the Council of Civic Association, we will begin here. There are 18 candidates running for office either as mayor or commissioner of a district. All 18 were asked by the narrator to please "state your name" and for "what position are you running". After the 18 stated their names, 17 of them replied they were running FOR mayor or commissioner in District 1,2,3, or 4. Only Glassman replied "I am running AGAINST Charlotte Rodstrom". Consequently, wherever he speaks he derides and attacks Commissioner Rodstrom personally and then spends time making promises he can't keep (like improving the economy) as he continues to tell you what you want to hear.

We mentioned that Charlotte, when first elected, asked the City Commission for a temporary building moratorium. This occurred before the current economic situation. Glassman attended that City Commission meeting and made a speech in favor of supporting Rodstrom's proposal (oops, he forgot to mention this).

Another point: Charlotte has been endorsed by our Police (Local 31) and our Firefighters (Local 765). Glassman has been crying like a baby ever since. Though they followed the same practices used in the past to endorse candidates, Glassman called it "politics" (huh!)

And just one more illustration (though there are many more), Commissioner Rodstrom is currently serving as the League of Cities appointee to the Broward Cultural Council and she is working with the Dep't of Transportation on the Florida Scenic Highways Program. Steve even finds fault with this. His response was "big deal, anyone can be appointed to a committee, but what has she accomplished?" We could ask him the same question. Nada. Glassman's campaign is very negative and, anyone who disagrees with him, will be verbally attacked. More than that occurred at the January 22, 2009, CBA Annual-Election meeting at the Bahia Mar Hotel, after, as promised in his January 20, 2009 letter to the Board, 2008 CBA Board Member and 2009 Candidate for the Board Art Seitz asked for a quorum count (only 23 out of 400+ members has signed in—a quorum was not present for the December, 2008 CBA Meeting), five minutes into the meeting, citing Robert’s Rules of Order, Glassman had him removed by the police. Read the Debate and Democracy in Fort Lauderdale letter that

    FROM A RESIDENT:
Was the CBA board elected legally Thursday Jan 22nd? Did the police act lawfully? Was the CBA election process followed? Why was there no discussion regarding the proposed slate of candidates? Why did President Steve Glassman not re-admit the ejected candidate Art Seitz, and open up nominations from the floor for Art Seitz and Miranda Lopez? Was Steve Glassman's use of the police to eliminate Art Seitz appropriate?

A candidate properly calling for a quorum count, albeit rather undiplomatically, was ejected from the meeting. Nominations from the floor were not allowed. Two potential candidates were denied the right to stand. The use of police force to squash dissent and eliminate a candidate from the election is chilling. The police need to be questioned about their actions by the City Manager and Police Chief. If this sets a precedent it will constrain future debate in the CBA. We all know Art Seitz and his manner. His bellicose behavior was not unusual. You may chuckle at Art Seitz's predicament but next time it could be you. You'll think twice when you want to raise an objection or talk at the CBA. This sets a bad precedent for democracy and debate in Fort Lauderdale.

Steve Glassman will do anything to get what he wants...Years ago he wanted to protect his view so he made sure he held up constuction of the Las Olas Beach club through ALL frivolous legal means. A few years later there was an election for the board of the CBA...after the winners ran and were elected by the voters...he disqulified them AFTER they had won. There is NO ONE in my condo at the beach(CBA member building) that would vote for him. Elfman or Rodstrom, NO GLASSMAN

Art Seitz, Cal Deal are only examples of negative people and troublemakers in the community. Although they are 100% right sometimes, their style is so unprofessional it turns you off and you support what is wrong just not to be in their company. Naugle is just as bad and Glassman too. The few people I see out their that come closest with no hidden agenda would be Tim Smith, Christine Teel, Howard Elfman and Coleman Pruwett. They seem to get their point across without all the drama.

Thanks Ray I saw Foxnews this week, we all know what we are buying with Earl.

If Earl became Mayor despite any good he would do, Fort Lauderdale would be the joke of the national media for Earl's enjoyment of porn. Good or bad. Our business or not our business. It would be Naugle Part 2, no matter what good they could do for the City they would be put out in the press as a lightning rod for their sexual views.

Ray let me ask you this. Earl claims that he didnt pay his credit card bill because he had a bad trip to africa. Why would a person refuse to pay the entire bill, including goods and services they used and not just dispute the individual charge?
If one of you tenants had a broken doorknob on a closet door would it right for them to withhold the entires months rent?
I have no problem with what Earl does in the privacy of his home but I do have a problem with what appears to be theft by refusing to pay for goods and services he bought on his credit card.

As a gay man, i find it funny how we want loyalty but boy are we fickle! Charlotte Rodstrom STRONGLY supported Dean when it wansnt popular and told her supporters to vote for him. Rodstrom appointed Glassman to the P&Z board and STRONGLY supported him. Rodstrom STRONGLY supported Ken Keechl for county commissioner...Isnt it strange that they all turned their backs on her to support a GAY candidate. NO LOYALTY from these cowards but when they wanted help they used her to get what they want. It will be NO surprise when ALL 3 of them are soundly DEFEATED. Oh, Danny Boy,

Nice Try. Who's playing the Gay Card?

Charlotte supported Dean NOT BECAUSE HE IS GAY but because he was the best candidate running. HE WON!

Charlotte appointed Steve NOT BECAUSE HE IS GAY but because he was the best person for the Job. HE DESERVED IT!

Charlotte backed Ken NOT BECAUSE HE IS GAY but because he was the most qualified! HE ALSO WON!

Rodstrom put out a flyer to the LGBT community with three promises. SHE BROKE EVERY ONE. Rodtrom Betrayed Us and that, Danny Boy, is why not one of those people are supporting her.

Rodtsrom is simply, by any metric, NOT qualified, NOT the best candidate NOR deserving.

P.S. Because you and your lying ilk keep putting out Judy stern's talking point, PLEASE give me one instance where STEVEN GLASSMAN has run as a gay candidate. ONE INSTANCE. I will take your lack of answering this challange as proof of your duplicity.

I can't imagine her running a city like she conducts her personal business. It would be one thing if it were an isolated incident, but apparently its habitual. We need people who arent going to use their position to bully small businesses around with their title.
