Tim's Pick - District III

     District III  ...........

It's the part of our City ( 25%), that has been left behind.

It houses most of our poorest residents, has a skyrocket crime rate, is riddled with ramshackle buildings, and contains the remains of years ago trash dumps with dangerous levels of carcinogens. It was the portion of the City reserved for black folks, and remains that way today.

It was represented fiercely by firebrand Commissioner Carlton Moore for twenty years, who ran unsuccessfully for County Commission that ended his political career a few months back.

                                                                      Moore

The temporary Commissioner ( Dr. Magdalene Lewis) , who was appointed to fill Moore's seat for the remainder of his term, is currently a candidate for the permanent seat.

But in this race, I strongly support Bobby Dubose.

                                                                                Dubose

I met Dubose last summer, when we met up at Sistrunk Boulevard's Soul Food Diner, Betty's. I was immediately impressed. Dubose grew up off Sistrunk, left for college, and returned! He's smart, pleasant, and committed to fixing the ills of the area he grew up in. He'll be much less aggressive than Moore was, but with Naugle gone, his friendly nature and passion for the District might be enough.

Much of the smart money is on Pamela Adams, a bright development professional, who is supported by Moore. She is most capable, but is a newcomer in the area, and might have difficulty forging the needed alliances to succeed.

Also in the race is Nadine Hankerson,  a long time native that will probably garnish a fair amount of the long time residents.

                                   ...........  back in a bit!........thanks, Tim

Bobby DuBose is an honorable and hardworking man. He will serve District III well and make sure that everyone has a voice. I am happy you picked him and hope that his community will as well. Pamela Adams is a highly qualified candidate, one that could do the job with great respect as well but this community is slow to warm up to people moving in and that will be her downfall. As to the other 2 candidates, it has never been clear why they wanted to run. Their platforms raised issues that belong at the County level which makes one think they really don't have a grasp of the job and they are very uninformed about the rest of the city - and on issues they will be required to vote on.

We wish very good luck to Bobby DuBose and hope he is elected.

I so agree with all the comments so far, Bobby seems like the best right choice.

I have live in Dist 3 for many years, Carlton, didn't help the voters that lived in the Sunset Colony Mobile Home Park, when they came to him. He told us to not make to big a fuss when the Manager was breaking code laws and endangering the tenants. He was in talks with one of the land owners, not even a voter in Broward County, when the land owner was trying to sell the property.

Now Ms. Adams has her signs all over the homes behind the old Sunset Colony Mobile Home Park, but mainly on the homes that are owned by Charlie, the new owner of the land where the mobile home park use to be and the land across from the Racetrak Gas Station where the new Industrial Park was/is being built, The Homes where Ms Adams signs are place, are currently being rented out or sit empty. Hum .... has she forged a alliances with Charlie to succeed in the City of Ft Lauderdale ?

Ms Adams was also reappointed to City committee seats as Carlton's last act on the Council.

Dr. Magdalene Lewis, she promised to not run, then back out of the promise. Now I don't care if she was going to run in the first place, but please don't misrepresent the truth.
