Top That Endorsement!

It's the campaign support that most candidates could only dream about !

     The Heavenly Father's !

And it's happening right here in Fort Lauderdale's District IV, the southern portion of the City, according to a memo sent out by the Romney Rogers campaign prayer team coordinator!

     The memo follows:

 Romney Rogers Campaign Prayer
 Written by Barbara Moody

Date: February 16, 2009

Dear Friends,

Thank you for all your prayers. God lifted His mighty hand and allowed Romney to receive the majority of the vote. However, we are still not finished with this election. Please take action and vote in the run-off election on March 10th. God will always do His part, but we must do ours. The best plan of action: (1) Tell you neighbors to vote! (2) Volunteer to take one street and distribute flyers. (3) Write a personal letter endorsing Romney and leave it at your neighbor's door. PLEASE BECOME INVOLVED!

" The king's heart is in the hand of the Lord. He directs it like a watercourse wherever He pleases. All a man's ways seem right to him, but the Lord weighs the heart. To do what is right and just is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice." (A portion of this prayer is taken from the Presidential Prayer Team Website.)

Heavenly Father, You have laid out the oceans and rivers, the mountains and the valleys; You set the planets on their paths and You know the name of every star in the universe. Please Lord, give us elected officials here in Broward County whose hearts are attuned to You. Let them be men and women whose hunger to serve You and do Your will above all else. Protect us, O God, from trusting in our own ways and keep our hearts turned to You so that we will be acceptable to You in all things and in all our ways.

Lord, Your Word says that God will always give what is right to His people who cry out to Him night and day. He will not be slow to answer them (Luke 18:7.) Oh Lord, we are crying out to you and asking for Your mercy. Give us godly leaders who will rule with Your heart and Your laws. Protect us from those who choose to depart from Your love, Your mercy, and Your protection.

Oh Lord, You said that there is not anything that is too difficult for you. Please stir the hearts of Your people to become involved in these next few weeks so that  Your will shall be spoken loud and clear. Lord, you said that for those of us who fear your name the Son of Righteousness will rise with healing in His wings. Oh Lord, heal our nation, our state, our county and our community. We are totally relying on Your power and Your wisdom.

Protect Romney and his family in these coming weeks. Give us wisdom. We thank You and praise Your name for what You have already accomplished. We give You all the glory, In Jesus mighty and powerful name we pray these things.... AMEN

Barbara Moody

Prayer Team Coordinator

     Any thoughts? .... Tim

Sadly, despite the heavenly claim made in this letter, God was unable to deliver a majority of the vote to Rogers. According to the Supervisor of Elections web site, God gave Rogers only 46% of the vote and told a majority of the voters to cast their ballots for someone else.

The First Amendment to the Constitution does not prevent praying for a political candidate so I don't have a problem with this. What I will have a problem with is when Rogers only wants to listen to his Christian brethren to the exclusion of constituents who are Jewish or Muslim or Baha'i or agnostic or even atheist. In fact, Rogers current lack of commitment to continue the tradition of holding pre-commission meetings, giving constituents access to their commissioner on a regular basis, makes me wonder if Christians are the only constituents he will have time for. After months of indicating that pre-commission meetings are a waste of time, I will find it hard to believe he is sincere should he change his tune a mere few weeks before the election. Will that be an example of listening or merely doing what it politically expedient?

    Interesting.

So they claim to have God on their side. Many wars were fought by nations that BOTH claimed to have God on their side.

This is also the claim of the jihadists who want to kill every American & European, to say nothing of the Jews in Israel.

If Romney loses on March 10, will Barbara Moody release a statement that God has struck down Romney and his campaign?

I really don't like the tone of this article. So, if your candidate that YOU want to win does not WIN, then GOD is displeased?

Good people are good people no matter what you slice manipulate. This is BAD karma. You reap what you sew. And just because you THINK that you are on the right side because it is inline with what you accept in the Bible, does not mean that you are correct?

The idea that you are using GOD as a basis to justify your political views is disgusting and wrong. GOD loves everyone and does not choose sides. YOU chose a SIDE and YOU are CHOOSING a candidate, not the other way around.

When does the demonization of a part of our population stop that pushes the agenda of any political person or party? Your self-rightousness is not Biblical nor is it Christian. Christ never did this in his teachings ... and you should not either. This is NOT Christ-like and thus, your actions and advocacy is not Christian.

You would be best serve to question the candidates on all levels. This letter testifies that if SATAN was in a CHRISTIANS clothing and testified to the followers of Christ, it would be lemmings to the sea.

This blind following is reserved for God, not for people who claim to speak for God.

Your prayers to bless someone because he is not like his other candidates is rediculous.

The prayer should be directed to you to understand why you feel this way, how others view you to build a better understanding and knowing what the community has to offer. This is the best way that Jesus taught that all people have something to offer not just the "adorned" few.

Your mockery of those on the signs are fear mongering in an effort to control those you think that will follow you through that fear.

You need to be ashamed of yourself and those that follow you need to look inside themselves and follow GOD, not you who think you are God.

Hey Tim! I notice you didn't comment on this one...merely asked what everyone else thought. You should be in politics!

But I'll 'take the bait' nonetheless, like the others here before me.

We (meaning most Christian, decent, good and civic-minded people who don't believe in mixing politcs with religion...like myself) fully respect Ms. Moody's and Mr. Rogers' right to worship and pray as they please, and if this memo went out only to the immediate members of their church, then I have no real problem with it, as they're simply addressing their own circle of friends.

But if it went out beyond their immediate church members purposefully, then one has to say...'Uh oh!...it's time to rethink and reevaluate Mr. Rogers' judgment and consider whether his agenda as a commissioner could possibly be open to representing those who may believe differently, as an elected public official absolutely must.

Invoking God as if he's only on your side and asking that we elect candidates whose "...hunger to serve You and do Your will above all else." is very disturbing. I'd hoped Mr. Rogers and his supporters would have been more balanced and attuned to the public in their thinking than to suggest something like this.

In fact, the more I think about it, even if this did only go out to fellow church members, it's all the more reason to have second thoughts about Mr. Rogers as a candidate...much less an elected commissioner. It's wonderful to be decent, honest and Christian as I know Romney is. But it's entirely another thing...and not a good one...to suggest others who plainly ARE good, decent and Christian (or even if not) are not worthy for that reason alone!

"In fact..., if this did not only go out to fellow church members..."

My apologies to anyone who may have read it and was confused or wondered why I would say the diametrically opposite of what I'd just said above. Must have been in a hurry when I hit Submit.

It would appear that the whispering about religion in government and about being a "faith based" man as Mr. Rogers has said and put in his brochures takes on much more significance. While religion is a private decision on the part of all people, the job of government is clear - and the two should not mix. It is fine to be a good and decent person and make decisions accordingly however to invoke a higher power in the execution of government is not a part of the charter or the job at hand. It is offensive to take religion, and I believe myself to be a good christian person, and imply that someone has been "selected"....Mr. Prewitt is a good and decent man and is able to govern as well. I am of the oppinion we should "select" him!

This is a job that you earn from the public....not be annointed with by your "good old Fort Lauderdale boys" and especially not by a "higher power"

Mr. Prewitt you had my vote before and I am now sure that I made the right choice. It really is time for a change and certainly not the one that the Rogers campaign is offering.

Obviously, this has proven to be untrue.
In fact, either god is "slow" or just never bothers to listen, or isn't there in the way you think.

Calculate, if you can, the billions of people, through hundreds of generations who have believed, and faithfully asked for god to help, only to be left in the cold, starving, abused, victimized, exploited, left on the street, and ultimately forgotten, not only by god, but by the very people who claim to know the way.

Perhaps you can interpret "always give what is right to His people" in that their endless suffering is what's right in gods eyes?

My thoughts on this, after reading your article would be to definitely NOT vote to put Rogers in office. I don't live in that district, but I am going to call everyone that I know that does and encourage them to vote for Prewitt. I think I'll start with the Stranahan Reunion Website that sends frequent e-mails and see just how many voters from that neck of the woods I can reach out to because I find this bible thumping as part of a campaign to be very offensive.

What the founding fathers were concerned about, was not religion or the "mix" of religion and government, they were afraid that ONE religion would be the only recognized religon, and no one would have "religious freedom" to practice whatever religion that they wished or believed in. This letter in no way does that, and we could all benefit from prayer. I would pray for our elected leaders and those seeking office period. This letter doesn't apper to be "sanctioned" by the Rogers campaign. They might not even have know about it in advance. I think it's really much ado about nothing. Just someone on their own putting whatever they wish to say on paper. That is freedom of speech and freedom of religion if the content is religious in nature.
