And ... The Commissioner Seat Goes To ......
It's finally over!
Fort Lauderdale has a brand - spanking new City Commission. Three of the five have never served as elected officials before !.... This is about as close to a clean slate that you'll ever get in politics.
Here's how it went down:
In the hard fought race in District I, it's Bruce Roberts beating the incumbent Christine Teel, by a tiny margin.

Commissioner Roberts
In District III, the winner, by a wide margin, was Bobby Dubose
Commissioner Dubose
And in District IV, it's Romney Rogers, by a comfortable margin.
Commissioner Rogers
These three will join Mayor-Elect Seiler and re-elected Commissioner Rodstrom on the dias.
Congratulations New Commissioners, and Congratulations Fort Lauderdale ......
................. more in-depth analysis tomorrow!

The Rodstroms said they would get rid of George with out without Sieler and they may have. John and his buddy Judy Stern, gave money and support to Romney. Stern got out the black vote for Duboze. The Common Sense ECO (same used for Scott Israel) came through for Roberts. Rumors around town was the Stern had replaced Ketcham for the last 3 weeks. 4 votes to 1. George is gone. I think we will end up paying George a half mil to go away like Floyd. Why? All because he didnt kiss Charlotte's butt. Looks like the Rodstroms and their friends run the County and Lauderdale Commissions.

Congrats Romney! Its about time we had one socal conservative voice on the commission! Also thanks to all the help from the Republican party for Bruce Roberts victory, Bruce has been a great Republican for many years and he is now the Republican leader of the city!

Congrats to Roberts & DuBose. My condolences to Prewitt. It's a pity District 4 voted for regression which translates to a victory for Naugle, FOX News, Rush Limbaugh & Ann Coulter.

How can that even be??? Putting all the names associated to Romney? He is a great guy, listens well and I have never heard him in the 20 years + of knowing him, condemn or judge. He is friendly and accessible. You'll get to know him for the next few years now that he has won and perhaps you be more accepting and tolerant before criticizing someone you hardly know. He likes everyone, even you. :o)

ROBERTS is a REPUBLICAN! Yikes and Mark Ketchum got all of us from the GLCC to support him, if I knew that I would take my vote back! Thanks Mark for fooling us all into supporting a REPUBLICAN....talk about gays selling themselves short!

So, what is the Dem vs Rep count on the Ft.Lauderdale Commission?

We now have a new mayor and (almost) commission.
One things stands out.
Fort Lauderdale's voters have elected a 100% NON-LATINO government.
Pathetic.

There is a very valid reason for that and all one has to do is look at Miami-Dade County to realize that not one hispanic politician ever sneaks his head of the the basket other than to feed or quote an issue other than Cuba..

Congratulations, Bruce!
This was a tough battle against indumbent Teel, but you sent her into permanent retirement. Thank you!
Sadly, you did this without much support from those of use who live in the GALT GULAG. Kudos to Mark for pulling this off in spite of what many thought was a controlling interest.
Perhaps your success will inspire the members of the various Associations to get rid of their Condo Commandos and Board Bullies. We're going to need your help to bring Sunshine to the Gulag.
Bruce, your victory over Teel today (almost) makes up for the October 2008 “Ambush on the Galt.”
It was a good day for the Galt.

With the new commission elected, I would take issue with you on crediting Mark Ketcham or Judi Stern....what we saw every day and every night, were candidates meeting, speaking and contiuing to get their message out. The performance of the the campaign managers was mediocre at best and crediting them with a win is a reach...they are only part of a team. The credit to Ketcham for Keechl's win is also off the mark....he was again only a team member - not the campaign manager - and there were many that did as much or more for that win...including Keechl himself and Adcock.
As to credit to Judi Stern - you continue to empower her when in fact she was most ineffective in the candidates she suppported this round with only the Charlotte Rodstrom win.
Again - I take you back....every one of these candidates worked harder this round than most in the past with a continued requirement citywide to meet, be interviewed and to speak on the issues.
It is a new time and we will now get to see them all in action - believe me - the change is most welcomed.
Two big things that they must all remember - the promises the made on the trail on issues in the city and the agreement to take down their signs within 7 days and give them to the recycle group for reuse.....hold them to those promises first and lets see if they can honor that.

Tim, first it's a prayer for Romney and now a congratulations? And we got the results! How sad for that blog in the first place. That was not a blog, it was a private e-mail. Romney is a great guy, listens well and I have never heard him in the 20 years + of knowing him, condemn or judge. He is friendly and accessible. And personally I would never mock God even if I did not believe in him. And may I thank God that he won.

Gotta give Alain Jean (for Bobby DuBose) and the campaign manager for Romney Rogers the most credit for running solid, effective campaigns and their candidates won decisively. It's too easy to be a Monday morning QB and second-guess the rest of them, so I won't, other than to say there are some strategic lessons to be learned here...and whomever picks up on them for next time will be way ahead of the game.
