I believe Comm. Dubose needs to get his priorities in order. While I am sorry about his mothers passing, we have a crucial vote that needs to take place now. It is my understanding that she suffered from a long illness and the funeral is not until later in the week. I have been very disappointed by Comm. Dubose on the FPL and other votes. He needs to realize he is here to serve the people and personal matters that can be postponed need to do so. George needs to go now and Comm Dubose needs to do his job.

Shameful and certainly heartless...why is your agenda more important than the loss of a family member...that is the proper priority...waiting 2 weeks harms no one and is a simple and respectful action...one that his fellow commissioners agreed to. Again shameful of you to trivialize someones worth or life by deciding that something else should be more important. It brings your character in to question. Commissioner DuBose has lost his mother..however long she has been ill is not a measure of how he should grieve. You should apologize.

I am sadden that someone would try and discredit me by using the death of someones Mother this discusses me I lost my Mother in 2004 and still have moments of grief and will always Miss her she was a great Mother and always wanted the best for me so those that Know me I hope you would not believe I would state whats in the Comment. Mothers are the Greatest Gift and when you lose that Gift it changes your life Forever.

It seems to me that you have not lost your mother. Does not really matter if Comm. Dubose lost his mom from a long illness or suddenly the fact is that he lost his mother & there is not anything in this world that is such an empty feeling.
The damn vote on George can wait until the next meeting, we have waited this long so what is another 2 weeks or so?
I cannot believe that you can be so damn cold hearted!!!!!

Everyone know who pulls the strings. The Mayor and Commissioners dance to his tune. Consider the facts on Bahia Mar. #1 The Economic Consultant's report to the City Commission on Bahia Mar sat in the City Manager's six months before being quietly produced June 2009;
(ii)The Chairman and two members of the P & Z board were absent for the most important vote in the City's history - the next 100 years of Bahia Mar; and
(iii) Deputy City Attorney Sharon Miller wrongly advised the P & Z board they could not vote three to three, thus forcing a four to two vote in favor - allowing the Bahia Mar project to go up to the Commission for final approval. Coincidence, or quiet manipulation behind the scenes? You be the judge. Time for the Commissioners and Mayor to regain control.

Veritas,
I'll tell you the same thing I told Earl Rynerson...who refused to publish my response to him...which was: While your comments (on the Commission's ability to vote without all Commissioners present may be technically and procedurally accurate, you've once again shot yourself in the foot and have shown your stark inability to grasp the sensitivities, common decencies and courtesies that have been shown by just about everyone else in the city toward Bobby Dubose at a time of extreme grief and sorrow over the loss of his mother. The only 'shameful' actions here are yours and anyone else who agrees with you in asserting nefarious motives and actions in this vote postponement.
Did you ever stop to think that maybe, with ALL the commissioners agreeing to postpone the vote on this issue...and several other issues that affect his District specifically...that they all might really be in agreement with doing so and that it might be a sign of courtesy and respect for a fellow commissioner in a time of great grief and sorrow? Have you asked them?
- Why don't we hear Bruce Roberts screaming for the vote to be held without Bobby?
- Why don't we hear Charlotte Rodstrom screaming for the vote to be held without Bobby?
THEY are supposedly in favor of getting rid of Gretsas, so you'd think if anyone had motive to assert such a scheme, it would be them!
But...NO...THEY HAVEN'T been screaming about it, have they?
Despite their deep differences on the issue of Gretsas as City Manager...they really do respect and value their colleague, Bobby Dubose, and they respect and value his input.
Further, they respect and value the PROCESS...not just the outcome! It's called good judgment and common decency, and I applaud the Mayor and entire Commission for setting an example of what those words mean for those who obviously don't understand them.

I agree with George Q. I live in District III, and appreciate the courtesy extendeed to Commissioner DuBose during his time of sorrow. In the past, other items have been postponed on the City Commission Agenda because a district commissioner or the mayor could not be present. The items deffered because of Commissioner DuBose's absence are not earth shattering and the City will survive if they are not decided for a few more weeks. As far as Mr. Rynerson, I have been censored on his blog in the past also. I don't really care, because most people don't care what he thinks anyway. That was evident by the election results in our last City election.

I was pointing out three facts that suggest the City Manager is manipulating the Bahia Mar vote. Nothing else. The facts can be easily checked. George Q. Public become part of the problem with his sanctimonious and self righteous rant on my posting. His "response" erects a straw man which is completely misleading and disingenuous.

Veritas,
This blog post was about the rescheduling of the Gretsas vote because of the death of a Commissioner's mother. Thus, your comment was either a) inappropriate relative to the subject matter of the post, or b) as I read it, clearly intended to promote the assertion that Gretsas was also manipulating the timing of this vote on his contract in same the way you allege he acted on the Bahia Mar issue. If neither of those...then why even post your comment here?
And because I contradicted and rebuked you, I'm now "sanctimonious", "self-righteous", "disingenous" and "part of the problem'...
As defined by whom?...YOU??
Funny how that works for people like you...it's always OK in your mind for YOU to insult and attack the integrity of the process and of those who don't agree with your position...but when someone takes issue with YOU and rebuts your self-serving commentary with simple common sense and noting the common decency and mutual respect being exhibited in this process...YOU can't take being contradicted and turn around and attack the messenger!
Wish you the best! I'll be around...

"Around", like a donut? Calm down dear. Everything's going to be fine. Have a cup of tea and put your feet up. Now isn't that better? Tim's blog was a post-script on the earlier one re. the George Gretsas contract extension vote. Let's focus on that, and his manipulation of the process, which if allowed to continue, will prevent the Commissioners and Mayor elected to represent us, doing their best for Fort Lauderdale.

Dettman you are a jerk. After people got on you for what you wrote you claim you didnt do it. It is your writing style, which is very similar to Earl. The theme is that of you and Earl. You have your right to express your opinion but after 5 days you take it back, come on.

I just want to chime in here and say that I personally don't believe Ray Dettman actually wrote that extremely insensitive blog post. If you've read Ray's posts, you'll see his spelling and grammar is far different than the posting using his name.
I've also personally spoken with Ray about that post and totally believe him that he did not...and would not...write something like that. The fact of the matter is that there is someone out there with a major vendetta against Ray...all you have to do is read Broward Politics to see the evidence of this and how this person viciously attacks him.
The thing I hope anyone reading this will consider is that Ray and I are often on opposing sides of issues. Nonetheless, our differences are always handled respectfully and I've always found him to be a guy trying to honestly contribute his ideas and opinions to the civic discusssion...and one who actually 'shows up' when it comes to volunteering his time and effort around the city in many different ways.
I've had my own nom de plume similarly misappropriated on the Broward Politics blog...and I know others that the same thing has happened to, as well. And I've long called for the Sun Sentinel to simply require people to REGISTER a valid name, tel# and email address...the same as they REQUIRE for a 'Letter to the Editor' to be posted in the print version...before allowing them to post on their blogs. How is this any different? It's NOT!
Once they've registered a valid name and contact info, 'posters' can THEN adopt any anonymous pseudonym they want to post under (as most do)...but they'll be forced to remember that the Sun Sentinel can find out who they are if subpoenaed to do so.
Almost ALL of the other major news organizations around the country have adopted this policy...and it has PROVEN to discourage most of the hateful, vile and offensive language posting that goes on now with the Sun Sentinel blogs...and reduces the kind of identity misappropriation as I'm convinced has gone on here.
It won't solve every problem...but it will help make these public-forum blogs more open and inviting to the many regular citizens who WOULD like to express themselves, but don't for fear of the harassment they'd receive from the 'dark side.'
Just my two cents' worth.

Over time watching this blog many times I have seen Tim remove questionable posts. I find it quite telling that Ray has not gone to Tim for removal. It looks obvious that maybe he sees now he took things a little to far and regrets it as he should. He should just admit he went too far and let it die. On the other side it also could seem quite calculating to leave the post up and just claim to be the victim to get sympathy points. Sorry but if Ray told Tim it was BS it would be removed and he did not.
George, I have seen Rynerson and his supporters act in ways that would suggest they play dirty games on on Broward Politics as well, guess you forgot to mention that.

anybody who has a problem with commissioner dubose has problems and is disgusting! how would you feel if you lost your mother? you people don't even know that half of it. commissioner dubose's mother was something special. she meant a lot to me, and the whole dubose family. if you weren't there at the funeral you have no right to say anything wrong about commissioner dubose's mom. she was one of the best people you could ever meet. when i saw her she would always be kind, and caring. this was before she was even in the hospital. she was like another grandmother to me. for people who don't know commissioner dubose like i do you have no right to talk so despicable about commissioner dubose's mother. she was a great person and anybody who thinks otherwise is heartless, disgusting, and a horrible person.
