Seiler Draws Challenger
I just received this e-mail from Earl Rynerson.

Should I run for Mayor of Fort Lauderdale?
I've finally made my decision.
I've been asked this question a lot over the last few months, even by our current Mayor: "Well Earl, are you going to run?"
I've given it a lot of consideration. Over the last three years (since the last election), I have enjoyed providing you my thoughts about what is really going on at City Hall, criticizing the actions of a number of people there, offering suggestions and thoughts on how things should be different.
I've also written a "Vision for Fort Lauderdale" (20 chapters in all) that focuses on what we can do to make our City better, more progressive and less costly in the future. This Vision was written with the input from dozens of people here in our City. That document is meant to be a "starting point" from which we can all contribute and refine the future direction we need to go in.
I've ruffled the feathers of many of the "Old Guard" here in the City who don't want to see any change (or improvement). They like things just as they are. These people are generally the wealthy, the well-connected, and special interest groups. They've been running things here for decades.
As most of you know by now, I have been particularly disappointed by our elected officials not facing economic realities and looking for ways to reduce spending. Other cities around our country have been successful in making the necessary (and sometimes painful) cuts to their budgets. Yet our budget has grown from $345 Million to $635 million in just the last 8 years. Almost double in size! We have a spending addiction. Our Mayor, rather than reduce spending, continues to hand out pay raises to City employees, and has been raiding the City's savings account to cover the higher costs.
This cannot continue.
I have asked for advice from a number you on whether I should run again. You've been very supportive. One person who was affiliated with Jack's campaign last time has told me: "Jack has given the go-ahead to certain groups that if you decide to run, they should attack you personally. He won't do it directly, but his supporters (ie: City employee Unions) have been told to go ahead. And it will be vicious, Earl. The funding for this effort will come from sources outside the City."
I'm a veteran. I've served our Country for 20 years in the military and am a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force. I volunteered for both Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm and was in Middle East days after Iraq invaded Kuwait. I'm a small business owner here in Fort Lauderdale and have been successful in my business despite the severe economic downturn. I chose to move here from San Francisco more than 10 years ago because of the quality of life I saw here. I am proud of what I have been able to accomplish so far in my life.
So since today is Veteran's Day (11-11-11), I think it's as good a time as any to let you know:
I intend to complete the necessary documents at City Hall in the next few days and file for my candidacy as the next Mayor of Fort Lauderdale.
As Bette Davis said (in the movie All About Eve): "Hang on, it's going to be a bumpy ride".....

Earl Rynerson
Well, Mr. Rynerson is going to run. At least if there are only two candidates for Mayor, he can come in second. He got badly beat the last time around, and in a field of several candidates, and spending lots of his own money, didn't even come close to second place. He hardly ever attends commission meetings, and uses his blog to have the last word on everything he writes about, which is mostly negative. I know his blog is not factual, because he stated that I have been appointed to various boards and committees by Mayor Seiler, which is not true.

Is this the same Earl that lost the last election with only 15% of the vote. The same Earl that has been in City Hall for Commission meetings just once in 3 years. The same Earl that has done nothing but complain and whine about the current mayor and commission on his blog, but has not lifted one finger to do anything about it. The same Earl that does not sit on any Board or Commitee.
Earl, save your money your will receive less than the 15% this time around with or without paying your employees (illegally) to work the polls for you.

I have been reading Rynerson's thoughts and comments for the past two years. I agree with his philosophy and will support him 100% in his run for mayor.

What a pompous blowhard. I guess he ralized no one goes on his website so he had to issue his press release on this site.
I dont think I have ever seen someone spend $100,000 to lose so bad in a city race yet carry themselves like they lost by a hair.
On your own website you asked people to comment who supported your run and you got 4 supportive replies.
The problem is that the City wants more than someone who just spits out multiple emails a week and does nothing more. If that was the standard, Cal Deal would have been Mayor by now

Great News Earl You Got My Vote

Who will be he first politician who takes responsibility for his/her own decision to run for office? "people have asked me...blah, blah, blah". It's only a little white lie. Everybody uses it sure it's tired but it's also BS. If you want to run, run! Stop with the reluctant Casandra act. PS. Seiler is the best thing going in Florida politics. Everybody knows that. So, when People ask" you to run, like Nancy Reagan said, "Just say NO."

Come on Ray you put all over Earl's blog that the Mayor would kiss your butt and jump when you asked for a meeting. which is why you dont like him.
A friend told me to go on google and put in "earl rynerson" and "fox news". Interesting stuff, no wonder this guy couldnt get anyone to vote for him despite spending $100000.

Thats funny Mr.rynerson has not filed as of Nov.10. So he is saying one thing, but per usual no merit.

You have to vote for Earl, think about it? Jack Seiler has not cut any appreciable budgets. For as Long as I remember Earl Ryerson has had his pulse on this city and its finances. The guy has been so outspoken on the mismanagement of the city "he has to PERFORM"!..He has no choice. Every avenue of fiscal responsibility has been dissected, investigated, and turned inside a out. Earl is a numbers guy..there is no way, Earl Ryerson can campaign, win and not perform..and yes the UNIONS will attempt to chew him up and spit him out, that's a gimmie..Earl isn't a Union guy and he is not in the pockets of Unions. Unions are decimating our economy. To me, this is a no brainer..Earl must be allowed to show his stuff and bring this city back to zero budgeting..Jack certainly isn't going to do it.

All I know is this, when I get my TRIM notice is this...
School Board: raised taxes
Board of County Commissioners:raised taxes
North Broward Hospital District; raised taxes.
City of Fort Lauderdale: No taxes raised in 3 years.
I am no numbers guy, (how does a guy who hawks tile suddenly because Alan Greenspan?) but I know when my taxes are not going up and that is the only number that matters.
Anyone can fudge numbers and say the city is this, that or something else. The number Earl cant contradict is the fact my taxes have not gone up.
