This is a story about a truck the Cops call the

              PeaceMaker

It's the newest addition to the Fort Lauderdale Police Department's fleet, and it's awesome for a number of reasons!

First, it is indestructible. The tires can't be flattened, the windows can't be broken out, the doors can't be forced open.

And it is a rolling video machine!

The truck has inside mounted cameras on three sides that roll non-stop. They can shoot 700 hours of video, so if you have a problem area, it just sits there and does the surveillance work for you.

But the very best thing about it ??

It costs - ready for this?

                         $10.

Police Chief Frank Adderley says all the credit for getting the vehicle ( and the cost) goes to City Manager Lee Feldman. Apparently, a big shot at Brinks used to work for Feldman. This truck ( and another one also on the way to the City) was slated to go to Miami, but when the Brinks people heard Feldman in Fort Lauderdale was asking for one - they sent us two !

The Peacemaker is in District III today, off Sistrunk Blvd., on a street that had a rash of ten burglaries in just two months.

The people on the street are thrilled.

These neighbors told me there hasn't been any problems since the Peacemaker came to town, and they hope it stays.

The only thing the wife was upset about ?

"You gonna take my picture with my hair looking like this?"

Sky Watch didnt record and now they are all broken to the point it is dangerous to put a person in one. They are a decoy at best. Another failure of the Hebert error (pun intended).

The SkyWatch (Not SHYwatch David) was also easily vandalized and cost over 100K a piece. Good comparison!

      SHORT HONEYMOON?
Homestead City Manager George Gretsas began his career with the semi-rural town on a high note. He was hired at a time when the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office was conducting several criminal investigations of City Hall. There were other scandals and lawsuits as well. Gretsas was seen as a unifying force but that may now be over. He is being criticized for hiring top aides who worked with him in Fort Lauderdale, where he previously served as city manager. Some business leaders and residents wanted him to fill key positions with people from the area who have a working knowledge of the city. Several council members may have soured on Gretsas and he is increasingly being scrutinized.

David, your boy Earl did a great job at the debate the other night. Keep up the good work. You're as good of a campaign manager as you were an assistant city manager.

I would. Maybe they could fit it with a Robo Cop voice that would project out "Citizen, your house looks like crap and you need to maintain it, or I'll be back with my red tag pad".

So the solution to Fort Lauderdale's crime problem is to basically put 2 armored vehicles into African American communities with video cameras?

Are you suggesting that due to your informal labeling of South Middle River as an African American Community, the homeowners in that neighborhood should be forced to live by a different set of rules than the rest of us despite the obvious need dictated by the crime rate there. I think we have already tried that, it is called ghettoization and is why South Middle River is in the state it currently is. I would also point out that the street where that vehicle is parked recently suffered 10 burglaries and I would suspect most if not all of those victims were African American families. I would also point out the families on that street that are afraid to leave their houses unattended are happy to have cameras. I would also point out that cameras are everywhere all over our roads and that one very non African American community, Lighthouse Point videos every car comming into and out of their city.

you do crack me up..Charles, by the way has the peacemaker traveled down your street today? In premise your right, in practice? I am not so sure. Look at the bright side, if that worthless Obama is elected again, we can use them on the 1% percenters like in your neighborhood.

Yes. Skywatch was very effective in the Black community, this is nothing new. Chief Carter placed them in front of all the drug houses and the problems disappeared.
