The Big Debate

The primary election for the Fort Lauderdale City Commission is just a week away, and last night there was a big debate at City Hall.

All the candidates showed up except for the fake candidate, Crimi ( though he did have a name tag on the dias!)

Only the Mayor's race and the District II race has a primary next week, as there has to be three candidates to have a primary. District I and District IV only have two candidates, and their races take place on March 13th. District III incumbent Bobby Dubose got reelected without opposition.

Last night's debate was pretty boring. The format asked all nine candidates to answer the same questions, and the crowd began to bail out about halfway into the debate. The Council of Neighborhoods should change that next time around.

It's not what the candidates said that was interesting, but what their facial expressions said!

                                 zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz ..

please don't stop me...I wanna go home!

.....   sheesh, Rynerson and his damn lying chart again!

OK, I'll pose, get it over with ...

Boy I'm glad I took that shot of Jagermeister before this thing!

ha ! ...I'm Judy Stern and I'm the puppet master !!

... yea, sure you are the Puppet master Judy, sure you are ............

"hmm... wonder what I should put in my next commercial?"

Note:  ( Art Seitz took the picture of Rodstrom) ........

The "debate" was boring. I was looking at the clock on the dias and thinking, I hope this doesn't go from 6-9 PM as scheduled. I think this is basically a "non-election", because most citizens seem to be satisfied with the job of the current Mayor and Commissioners. It might have been interesting for the Council to take a "straw poll" of those in attendance and living in the city, as to who they were going to vote for, and if the "debate" changed anyone's mind. My prediction is that the Mayor and all the DistrictCommissioners will be re-elected by wide margins.

Tim, I agree with you. After hearing that all Earl wanted was to debate Jack, and then when Earl finally got off the couch and attended a debate, he was ill prepared and got slaughtered.
That silly budget chart was all he had and it was all made up. After all the hype I was waiting for Earl the self proclaimed "MASTER deBATER", but all I got was a "blog" that wore a suit.

I have supported Earl for years and actually believed in him, that was until last night. I believed Earl when he said he was not going to attend any debates until the end so he can "shock and awe" the voters. Instead as soon as he opened his mouth it was shock and bore. Earl had nothing to say, looked angry all the time, and started to doze off before he got up to take a leak. I guess it's easier to blog than to speak in public.
But the key reason Jack now has my vote is that the Mayor has to be an ambassador for the City. Jack is and I have now realized that Earl is nothing more than self serving. For the record Earl although I'm sure you counted on our vote, the gay and lesbian community is switching fast.

You're right, Tim - boring and shame on the Council for that dreadful format. District 2 voters are left with the incumbent Charlotte who answers questions as if she is a finalist at the Miss Florida pagaent; a "nuts" (Tim's words) Ferber who makes Ron Paul look like a big government type, and a clueless Lester Zalewski who wouldn't know a comp plan if it hit him in the face. Art Seitz told me he loved that photo of Rodstrom because it shows that she really needs to take care of her hands the next time she has work done - they don't match the face!

Sunday night War Memorial, 2 chairs in the squared circle. Gordon Solie will Moderate.

    UNDERCARD

Jackie Scott, managed by Charlotte Rodstrom versus Romney Rogers is managed by Hay-Zeus Chris-tos. The person who smiles and is pleasant the longest wins. Hint, Charlotte distracts the Ref John Rodstrom and Scott clocks Romney with a chair and wins the match.

Graham vs Roberts, 1 pinfall match, Graham comes in with her finishing move, speaking for numerous minutes straight without saying anything causing her opponent to pass out. Roberts counters with the Spring Break Headbutt, taken from "accidentially" bumping a defendants head on the patrol car before throwing them in the back of the patrol car (circa 1988-1995).

    ITS ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Forget the debate showcase. Fed Reserve stated today rates are set at zero till 2014 so electing new faces is irrelevent. quit asking about Visioning and getting companies to move to the city till 2015. the current 5 get to serve another term, no ones real estate will go up in value and rental properties will be harder to lease.

Rental properties harder to lease? What neighborhood are try to rent properties but can't do it. It must be a real bad one because rents are rising and supply keep shrinking in all the decent parts of the city.

There have been many articles in the media, including the Sun-Sentinel, that more and more people are choosing to rent rather than buy a home. Even though interests rates are at historic lows, it's still hard to qualify for a mortgage, and many don't want to pay the high costs of property insurance, flood insurance, and then on top of insurance, you have property taxes. I would think that in this market, there would be more looking to rent, and that rental rates would reflect the increased demand.
