C. Rodstrom Quitting Already?
City Commissioner Charlotte Rodstrom opened a campaign account, this past Friday, to run for County Commissioner.
The most amazing thing about that is .... Rodstrom opened the account for the County position, just 2 weeks after winning re-election to her seat as District II City Commissioner!
This request below was on Fort Lauderdale City Commissioner Charlotte Rodstrom's web site, just a few weeks back, when she was running to be elected to her third (and last, due to term limits) 3- year term on the Fort Lauderdale City Commission ......

When Rodstrom asked to be allowed to "continue serving as your City Commissioner", I guess she forgot to add " but just until I scoot off to the big leagues, the County Commission!"
The County seat that City Commissioner Charlotte Rodstrom has aimed her sights on, is the seat now occupied by her husband, County Commissioner John Rodstrom.

John Rodstrom holding check
Follow me now!
John Rodstrom is term limited on the County Commission, but his friend, attorney Bill Scherer, is suing in the Florida Supreme Court to overturn the term limit law voted in by 80% of the citizens of Broward County, which would let Rodstrom serve another ..... say, ... millennium or so !
Apparently, attorney Scherer and friend John Rodstrom suspect they are about to lose at the Supreme Court hearing, and John Rodstrom will have to leave the County Commission seat after all, so it's time to run wife, Charlotte Rodstrom, for the County seat!
C. Rodstrom raised $67,000 to run for the City seat. It is expected that she will raise a few hundred thousand to compete at the County level.
Whether she wins the County seat or not, ( County primary in August, General Election in November), Rodstrom will have to resign the City seat, and the City will have to hold a "special election" for her seat, which the City will be required to pay for.
Maybe we should ask the Rodstroms to pick up the tab!

btw (for you C'mon - I am on topic) - Ms. Rodstrom's bundles were even bigger than the Mayor's - on the other hand Roberts gets very little from them. I can imagine a guy like him would be considered a poor return on investment in the lobbyist world.

She is not dummy but rather the smartest one on the dais, and knows borrowing $30 million dollars a year to fund the city budget is a career killer
so the campaign account is open and she will have to resign per FlaSta 99.02 before qualifying opens
http://www.leg.state.fl.us/Statutes/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute&URL=0000-0099/0099/0099.html
which of course is before the city will have to deal with the budget and raise fees and taxes for all in ft ldle

Those who wrote good reviews of Centenary College, New Jersey (where per her web site Bio, Broward County Commission wanabee, her majesty, Charlotte Rodstrom, "took courses" in the 80's, prior to her career as a flight attendant) were either the faculty themselves or were extremely lucky students.
This Fall 2011 is to be my last semester at Centenary and I along with 5 other students are being told that they can not hold the senior seminar (necessary to graduate) because there's not enough of us. It is our accademic advisors fault and instead of being appologetic and kind they are being rude and nasty. We dont know what will happen to us as of yet. Also, that same advisor babysits her grandchildren during class time or during a one on one meeting with a student. They are out of control and I have witnessed them rip up students record portfolios. The stress of all of this is enough to kill me. PLEASE DON'T SPEND YOUR MONEY AT CENTENARY!

If you have half a brain or more, this place isn't for you. The academic standard is nonexistent. People who actually enjoy this place are the worst of the worst. The student body is made up of kids who screwed up in high school and this place feels like a daycare to rehabilitate them. I know i screwed up, and boy am I learning my lesson. I am transferring ASAP! Unfortunately it is hard though, because Centenary goes on a different accreditation system and little to none of my credits will transfer. Before you come here, think about the THOUSANDS of dollars going straight to nothing. Straight up, this place sucks.

Thanks, Art Seitz for another one of your anonymous posts. Boy, you really have been intimidated into silence by the Mayor and Charlotte who b-slapped you when she fired you from the Beach Advisory Board. Poor man. You are pathetic.

Knowing all along that she was going to run in this August’s Democratic primary for County Commission, she should have done the honest and noble thing and stepped down from the City Commission. Her actions speak to her character and all voters in her district should feel used. Time to stop both Rodstroms - they have been there too long already.

You know, I have always supported Charlotte for city commissioner, but I have to agree that this is a complete fraud.
To run for re-election and before the final city elections are even finalized (except for hers, of course) she announces she’s going to run for another office.
Count me very disappointed.

Does this mean that if the Florida Supreme Court overturns Broward’s terms limits, Charlotte will be running against her husband???

So now we’re going to have to pay for a special election just so we can butter the egos of the Rodstroms?
Not getting my support and will work as hard as possible to make sure she’s defeated.

Given Florida’s resign to run law, how much money is Charlotte costing tax payers when the city is forced to run a special election to replace her? How is this the action of someone who is “fiscally conservative”, or did you mean to say political opportunist?

I contributed $250 to Charlotte Rodstrom's campaign just a few weeks ago and am outraged. She is a hypocrite - calling herself a taxpayer's watchdog, scrutinizing every nickel and dime the city spends. Well, has she calculated how much she is now costing the taxpayers for this past election and also the special electon to come?!

re: ripped off.
thanks to the pro-development sun-sentinel, which should have been a first line of defense, you and just about every one else in district 2, who isn't a developer or insider, really haven't a clue, regarding, the serious damage, that her highness, queen charlotte of nurmi, has done, during her six worthless years in political office.
her numerous negative traits and actions - too many broken promises, a total lack of vision, hard work and veracity - have now surfaced for "smucks" like you to hopefully finally comprehend.
its no wonder that you have been screwed and that you have wasted $250. someone should buy tim smith a case of beer and start a recall before she gives the rest of the barrier island away.

Now Art Seitz is calling himself "Queen Charlotte of Nurmi" - wow, another anonymous post from him. What's up? Art, why don't you tell the truth and let everyone know how hard you worked for Charlotte for her first two elections? Why don't you admit to the fact that the Rodstroms used you as their patsy on the lawsuit they pushed against Carlton Moore? Admit they used your name on the paperwork when in fact you never met the attorney.Come on, Art - you can't have it both ways.

Rodstrom convinced her close friend Jackie Scott to run against Rogers in District 4 so that she could get visilibility. Why? Because, Miss Charlotte knew she was stepping down a long time ago and is planning on putting Jackie's neighborhood - Colee Hammock - in to District 2 so her friend Jackie can run for that seat in the special election - watch the Carpetbagger Jackie Scott!

Weren't you the one who also predicted run-offs this year because 2012 is so defferent than 2009? How did that work out?
Rogers - 70%; Scott - 30%

Money buys votes right?
Rogers has raised $60K+ as of a few weeks ago and Scott has about $16k+
so your prognostication of 70-30 could happen.....
separately neither state statute or city charter can force a candidate to pay for a special election so no sense inciting the masses

not clear from this link when qualifying for the county is but if in early sept 2012, she would have to resign prior to this period. so she serves district 2 for 5 months or so.....and should she not win county in november, then shes a private citizen again like the rest of us.
or her trusted advisors tell her stay put, serve the full city comm term and wait it out till next round
given the candidate jockeying already underway at every level of gov't, there will be a crowded field for county comm.
maybe if citizens wake up there will be surprises and upsets like we have never seen before. maybe.

the Broward SOE link also says
"In addition, there is a bill pending that would change the September qualifying period to coincide with the county qualifying period in June 2012. This legislative change is needed to ensure that all mandated election timelines can be met.
Fla. Sta. 99.012(3)(c)
"The written resignation must be submitted at least 10 days prior to the first day of qualifying for the office he or she intends to seek."
So she would have to resign prior to June 2012, thereby serving the city for less than 3 months since the new commission is sworn in in mid-March.
Reply to this
Actually, the resignation must be submitted 10 days before qualifying, but does not have to be effective until the date the candidate would assume the new office (in the case of Broward Commission, that would be November.)

Once you lose your integrity Charlotte, you'll never get any decent human being to believe any explanation for this sham,or promise you make to future constituants.....
I think it's pathetic that people like the Rodstroms and Jack Seiler feel as though they have to be elected officials forever in order to feel important,I feel sorry mostly for their children, as they have to take second-seat to the community during the time they really need the attention of both parents....

Thank-you for keeping us up to date on these things, Tim. I am extremely disappointed in Charlotte Rodstrom. I was just beginning to think she was trustworthy and genuine. Guess I was dead wrong. You don't run for office, accepting folks' campaign donations, knowing all along that you have no intentions of fulfilling your obligation to that office. Pathetic!

In all fairness folks lets look at the stats from the Jan 31 election of Comm. Rodstrom -
http://www.browardsoe.org/items.aspx?id=41
all numbers here from pdf on the link above
FLL Dist 2 has 26,039 voters
but only 3,853 voted in total in Dist 2.
14.79% of eligible voters turned out.
so here on Tim's blog we get maybe 4 dozen that actually post a comment although I am sure he has many more that read it but will not comment.
So why the outrage that she MAY run for county comm? She probably crunched the numbers and realized if BC District 7 is as apathetic as FLL District 2, its a shoe-in come November.
maybe if everyone in district 2 writes her and demands she serve the 3 years she may heed the voters wishes, no?

I find it amazing that this women lied to our faces...bold face lied and to think I donated to this sham of a run so that she can get more publicity for her county run....what a load of crap. I find it disgusting and I hope someone calls her out for lying to the people of Fort lauderdale. She has disgraced the city and she is nothing but another lying politician...now we have a son of a convicted felon, a former loser county commisioner that rents his home to himself for doublethe price on tax payer money, and a sham of a former city commissioner...when is someone with integrity going to run for office? OH and Jackie Scott is another liar...after ruining our neighborhood with those huge houses she now touts herself as some kind of savior...shame on you ms. scott....I hope you try to run in district 2 so i can tell all my neighbors about how you were Glenn Wrights right hand girl for years...shame shame shame...this city is amazing

Let's go back a few months: Charlotte Rodstrom is raving (what else is new?) about how the district maps MUST be re-done in Fort Lauderdale before the City election or else the City Commission would be disenfranchising countless voters and not serving the public. She chastised her colleagues on the dais in her usual holier than you voice. Now this?

What offends me is the cynical "gaming" of the system. Absolutely subverting the electorial process which is the foundation of our democracy.
The term limits don't just mean that it's OK that wifey gets instructions every day over the morning coffee. That the Rodstroms are SO power mad surely adds to the SMELL of corruption. Maybe we need to get United Nations observers to point out that the South Florida election process is prone to abuse and corruption. INVALIDATE her election to City Commission and BAN her from running for hubbys seat. She is a criminal, running AGAINST all of us.

she must turn in resignation letter before the qualifying period May 2012, stay in office as city comm. till nov. 6 2012 election (her last day) or chanage her mind realizing this is a mistake

Seems to be some controversy in SS story and other blogs regarding C-Rod's ability to run in a special city election if she loses COunty race. So, what is it? Is she term-limited out now that she had run three times or is she able to run again for her same seat?

I find it interesting that Mrs. Rodstrom decided to take this route. When she spoke to our civic association she said she was in it for the long haul and that she cared about our little community. It seems like she really didn't care about our community at all and just wanted our support money to get her name ot for a county run. Its quite shocking that someone would stoop so low.
My question is if this run was based on a fraud that she would stay in office, isnt there a lawsuit that all the donors can file for giving her money based on that fraud? I mean if the lady sued Honda for saying she they got 40 miles to the gallon and won, why can't i sue Mrs. Rodstrom and get my money i donated back?
